Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:

  • Each team has just 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players seeking different methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
