President Trump has stated he is increasing import taxes on products imported from Canada after the province of Ontario aired an anti-import tax commercial including former President Ronald Reagan.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Donald Trump labeled the advertisement a "deception" and lashed out at Canadian officials for not pulling it before the baseball championship.

"Due to their significant distortion of the facts, and hostile act, I am increasing the duty on Canada by 10 percent on top of what they are currently paying now," he wrote.

Following Donald Trump on Thursday withdrew from trade negotiations with Canadian officials, the Doug Ford said he would take down the advertisement.

The Province Reaction

Ontario Premier the Premier said on last Friday that he would halt his territory's anti-import tax ad campaign in the America, telling the media that he chose after discussions with the Prime Minister the Canadian PM "in order that trade negotiations can resume".

He also said it would remain broadcast during the weekend, during contests for the World Series, which involves the Toronto team facing the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Trade Situation

The Canadian nation is the sole Group of Seven state that has not secured a arrangement with the United States since Donald Trump commenced trying to levy significant duties on goods from key commercial allies.

The America has already applied a 35% tax on all Canadian goods - though many are free under an current commercial pact. It has also slapped sector-specific duties on Canada's products, including a fifty percent tax on steel and aluminum and 25% on cars.

In his update, sent while he was traveling to Malaysia, the President appeared to state he was including an additional 10% to those taxes.

75% of Canadian overseas sales are sold to the US, and the province is home to the majority of Canadian car production.

Reagan Ad Details

The advert, which was funded by the Ontario government, cites former US President Ronald Reagan, a Republican and figure of conservative values, remarking tariffs "damage every American".

The commercial takes excerpts from a 1987-era broadcast that addressed international trade.

The Reagan Foundation, which is charged with maintaining the ex-president's heritage, had criticised the commercial for using "selective" recordings and stated it falsified Reagan's 1987 remarks. It additionally stated the Ontario authorities had not sought authorization to use it.

Ongoing Tensions

In his update on Truth Social on Saturday, Donald Trump stated that the advert should have been removed earlier.

"Ontario's Advertisement was to be taken down RIGHT AWAY, but they let it run recently during the World Series, knowing that it was a LIE," Trump stated, while traveling to Malaysia.

Ford had previously vowed to run the Reagan advertisement in every Republican-led region in the America.

Each of the President and the PM will be participating in the Southeast Asian summit in Malaysia, but Donald Trump advised journalists accompanying him on Air Force One that he does not have any "intention" of meeting with his Canadian PM during the visit.

In his message, Donald Trump also claimed Canada of seeking to affect an future American high court legal case which could halt his entire tariff regime.

The case, to be reviewed by the highest US court in the coming weeks, will determine whether the duties are lawful.

On Thursday, Donald Trump also condemned, stating that the commercial was designed to "interfere" with "a crucial lawsuit"

MLB Finals Association

The Reagan commercial is not the sole way that the province – home of the Blue Jays – is using the MLB finals as a platform to criticize Trump's tariffs.

In a clip shared on last Friday, Doug Ford and Governor Gavin Newsom humorously agreed on stakes about which team would triumph the finals.

The two leaders repeatedly teased about import taxes in the clip, with Doug Ford promising to provide the Governor a container of syrup if the Los Angeles team triumph.

"The tariff might cost me a higher price at the frontier nowadays, but it'll be worth it," Ford said.

In response, the Governor asked Ford to restart allowing American-produced drinks to be sold in regional alcohol shops, and pledged to send "our premium wine" if the Toronto team triumph.

They concluded their conversation both stating: "Here's to a great baseball championship, and a tax-free alliance between the province and CA."
