Experience this Reimagined Classic Journey: A Free Trial for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Lands Soon.

Enthusiasts looking forward to the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait much longer. An free-to-play playable preview is set to go live on Jan. 7, offering a substantial glimpse into the game's beginning segments. Notably, all save data earned within this demo is eligible to be imported directly into the main game upon its subsequent launch.

Beyond Just a Straightforward Re-release: A Complete Transformation

This project constitutes a ground-up reinterpretation of the seminal year 2000 role-playing game, originally titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a notable step away from other Dragon Quest remakes, like the previously launched HD-2D versions, this remake adopts a striking three-dimensional art style. Environments have been crafted to evoke detailed dioramas, with protagonists featuring a whimsical stylized appearance.

"Considering the previous remake, the story was remained notoriously extended. Consequently, the team reached a conclusion that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this experience for today's gamers."

Major Mechanical Improvements & Updates

The creators have implemented a host of enhancements to refresh the classic gameplay loop. Among these are:

  • Expedited Field Battles: Inspired by contemporary RPGs, low-level foes are now dispatched directly on the exploration screen without entering a full traditional combat sequence.
  • Variable Combat Speed: Players have the option to speed up battle sequences to quickly power through less challenging encounters.
  • New Job Mechanics: A brand new character role has been created for this reimagining. Additionally, characters gain the ability to master a second vocation, significantly expanding customization possibilities.

Such refinements are designed to address one of the 2000 game's frequent criticisms: its immense scope. The original adventure was known to require over 100 hours to finish. This reimagined version was expressly structured to improve pacing and reduce any repetition.

Save the Date: Preview and Final Launch Information

Curious JRPG fans will be able to start exploring the transformed world of DQ7 firsthand when the complimentary demo releases on Wednesday, January 7th. Subsequently, the complete adventure, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will then be set to release on February 5, 2026. It will be available on a wide range of systems, including Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox.
