Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
