The Actress Says Mentioning Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Country Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels fitting to comment publicly countering the Trump presidency, fearing it could worsen divisive discussions and further divisions within the country.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains the Actress

During a discussion, Lawrence commented, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was running around without clear direction. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars have no real impact at all on who people vote for.”

Lawrence added, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has previously been open about supporting right and leftwing candidates over the years. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and revealing she recognized during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was undermining her individual liberties as a woman.

Previous Comments

Several years ago, she stated that a Trump victory might signal “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she voiced her backing to Kamala Harris, “since I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to safeguard women’s health rights.”

Industry Position

Jennifer Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the limited influence celebrities have over the voting intentions was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“Another four years appears changed,” noted the actress about his leadership. “As he stated his intentions. We understood his record for the previous administration. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”

New Release

Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a young mom who deals with her psychological well-being in the countryside. At a media event for the movie in Venice, she commented on the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s happening is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”

Wider Issues

She continued by expressing that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discussions of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be accepted to the kids now. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”

The actor sought to redirect anger about the issue to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she said, seen by observers as a nod to the then-recent pledge signed by numerous entertainment industry figures to avoid Israeli film institutions.

Relatable Experiences

Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is receiving praise for her portrayal in the new film. While the director has rejected the narrative being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, the actress shared that she did relate to aspects of her role’s experience after the delivery of her youngest child, shortly after filming concluded.

“I felt anxiety for my son,” she explained, “envisioning every negative outcome, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a medication called Zurzuvae and I continued it for a short period and it made a difference.”

Professional Experiences

Jennifer Lawrence also mentioned about the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.

“It feels nice,” she said, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
