Audiences are thrilled for the Stephen King adaptation Welcome to Derry, already garnering praise and weaving in references from other Stephen King works. Following the premiere, the broadcaster declared that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, released fittingly for October 31st.
Starting on the last day of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, the second episode of Welcome to Derry will make its debut on HBO Max, before its linear broadcast. Subsequent episodes of the show's first season will continue to air on Sunday nights on the network and streaming service, building toward the concluding chapter on the 14th of December.
Set in the Derry mythology, Welcome to Derry borrows elements from the original story while enlarging the universe established by the It movie director in It and It Chapter Two. The first It movie highlighted young characters confronting unimaginable horrors, thus it's suitable that the prequel follows in those footsteps. However, the debut of HBO’s Welcome to Derry proves it intended to escalate the fear, offering even more intense scares than the movies and creating a harsh vibe for the upcoming episodes.
Set in 1962, the series presents a different group of parents and youngsters inhabiting a seemingly idyllic town masking a dark secret. This place operates on a brutal, periodic loop—defined by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a terrifying being resurfaces each 27-year cycle. Even though It: Welcome to Derry might appear like it strays too near to the films on the surface, what sets apart the streaming show is its two-sided viewpoint—narrated via the perspectives of kids and grown-ups simultaneously. Younger characters stay particularly vulnerable to the monster's horror, but older characters also face facing their own nightmares born from the town's ingrained prejudice and hidden paranormal elements.
It: Welcome to Derry premieres on the 31st of October at 3 a.m. EST.
