The skiing legend Confident of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn states she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following claiming a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup events.

The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Competing at the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm satisfied with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn ended her career in February 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She already possesses one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a career spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup circuit includes a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
